Managing a young staff presents unique opportunities to teach skills beyond the labor of production. Though our primary goal began as a means to fund the Vida Joven Clubs of Granada, theProject has grown in its efficacy. In 2011, we began this process by offering monthly "charlas," or presentations, to encourage the youth and women of the Jicaro Project to grow beyond just acquiring money. We desire each person to grow in character, work ethic, and skills in order to advance in their work and to obtain and maintain future employment.
Such goals are not achieved through a single approach, nor instantly. They are daily, and they are foundational. We have attempted to create a framework for growth through a variety of venues, with personal relationship and influence at the center. We allow participants in the project to cover a word topic each month, focusing hearts and minds on a specific attribute of God in order to draw us nearer to Him and grow personally. We also determine an "Employee of the Month" for each pay period so to encourage each employee to achieve specific goals through their work. Finally, we are blessed to have business and community leaders from Granada who willingly give their time to bring a short presentation to our workforce, often pertaining to money management, character development, or job skills and expectations.
The following are examples of topics we cover:
